2027 State Test Calendar:
Testing Windows for Every State We Cover

This is the spring 2027 testing window, plus fall and winter windows where a state tests during the year, for each of the 32 states we cover, in one table. Every date links to the state's own calendar, so you can check it at the source. Most states test between March and June 2027, and your school picks the actual days inside the window.

2026-27 state testing windows, by state

A window is the span of dates the state allows, not the days your child tests. Districts pick the days, so ask your school for its schedule. Four states tie testing to the last days of each district's school year instead of fixed dates.

Texas

STAAR ends; the Student Success Tool starts in 2027-28

Spring 2027 is the last STAAR for grades 3-8, and December 2027 the last STAAR end-of-course test. From the 2027-28 school year, the Student Success Tool (SST) replaces STAAR.

Maryland

MCAP becomes MSTAR, starting with ELA and math

From the spring 2027 window (March 29 - May 28), grades 3-8 take the new MSTAR tests in ELA and math. Science, social studies and high school tests stay on MCAP this year and move to MSTAR in 2027-28.

New Jersey

NJSLA is now adaptive

New Jersey's ELA and math tests are the computer-adaptive NJSLA-A, aligned with the 2023 New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Spring 2027 testing runs April 19 - May 21.

New York

Passing Regents exams stops being a diploma requirement

From the 2027-28 school year, students graduating in January 2028 or later earn one New York State diploma and do not have to meet the separate Regents exam requirements (the 4+1 Regents exams). Students graduating before then follow the current rules.

Questions parents and teachers ask

When are state tests in 2027?

Most states give their spring 2027 tests between March and June 2027. The earliest statewide windows open on March 1 (Illinois and Washington), and the latest close in June (Oregon on June 11, Virginia on June 17, Washington on June 25). Inside each state window, your district or school picks the actual test days.

When is STAAR in 2027?

TEA's 2026-27 calendar sets three spring 2027 windows for grades 3-8: reading April 5-16, grade 5 and 8 science and grade 8 social studies April 12-23, and math April 19-30, 2027. Spring 2027 is the last STAAR for grades 3-8; the Student Success Tool replaces it from 2027-28.

Do all states test at the same time?

No. Each state sets its own window. Illinois opens March 1, Wisconsin runs March 15 - April 23, and Pennsylvania gives ELA April 26-30. North Carolina, Kentucky, Oklahoma and South Carolina tie testing to the end of each district's school year, so the dates depend on your district's last day. Florida, Indiana and Arkansas also test during the year, not only in spring.

What does a testing window mean?

A testing window is the span of dates the state allows. Your child does not test the whole time: the district or school picks a few days inside the window for each subject, plus make-up days. Ask your school or check your district calendar for the exact days.

Which states test more than once a year?

Florida gives FAST three times (PM1 August 10 - September 25, 2026; PM2 November 30, 2026 - January 22, 2027; PM3 May 3-28, 2027). Indiana gives three ILEARN Checkpoints between September 14, 2026 and April 9, 2027, then the summative test April 12 - May 7, 2027. Arkansas has two ATLAS interim windows before its April 26 - May 28, 2027 summative window.

When is Georgia Milestones in 2027?

The Georgia Department of Education had not posted its spring 2027 End of Grade window when we checked in October 2026. It will appear on GaDOE's Georgia Milestones page, and your district's testing calendar will list the actual days.
