Districts pick the exact days inside each window. In spring, the EOCs share windows with the grades 3-8 tests, so an 8th grader taking Algebra I takes it in the April 19-30 math window. Grades 3-8 dates are on STAAR 2027 dates.

EOCs and graduation: the basics
Five required EOCs
TEA calls Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology and U.S. History "the required five end-of-course assessments" for a Texas diploma.
English II drops out
For students who graduate after August 31, 2027, English II is no longer a graduation requirement. Students enrolled in English II in 2026-27 still take it.
Graduating before Aug 31, 2027
These students must still meet the English II requirement: by passing, through an individual graduation committee if eligible, or with an approved substitute assessment.
Individual graduation committees
A student who has failed no more than two EOC requirements may qualify for a diploma through an IGC. TEA says the English II change does not alter that rule.
TSIA2 still counts
HB 8 does not change the use of TSIA2 as a substitute assessment for English I or Algebra I.
One passing standard
TEA reports a single EOC passing standard for each student, set when the student first takes an EOC, and used for all subjects.
Graduation rules depend on the year your child entered high school. Your school counselor can confirm which EOCs your child still needs.

After the last EOC: what replaces it
House Bill 8 (2025) replaces STAAR with the Student Success Tool (SST) from 2027-28. TEA says the last STAAR is spring 2027 for grades 3-8 and December 2027 for end of course. The SST keeps end-of-year tests for Algebra I, English I, Biology and U.S. History, and TEA will keep offering December and June testing. There is no SST English II.
- June 14-25, 2027The final STAAR English II.
- August 23 - September 30, 2027SST beginning-of-year tests start. For Algebra I, English I, Biology and U.S. History they are optional; the district decides.
- December 6-17, 2027The last STAAR end-of-course tests: Algebra I, English I, Biology and U.S. History (no English II).
- January 3 - February 21, 2028SST middle-of-year tests, again optional for the four high school courses.
- May 2028The first SST end-of-year tests for Algebra I, English I, Biology and U.S. History (English I writing in April).
- June 12-23, 2028SST June tests for Algebra I, English I, Biology and U.S. History.

Do you have EOC practice tests?
Not yet. Our STAAR practice tests cover grades 3-8 (math, reading and science), each built from TEA's released tests. We do not have Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology or U.S. History EOC practice. For released EOC tests, use TEA's own STAAR pages.

Questions parents ask
What are the STAAR EOC tests?
STAAR end-of-course (EOC) tests are the state tests for five high school courses: Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology and U.S. History. Students take them when they take the course, and TEA calls them the required five end-of-course assessments for graduation.
When are the STAAR EOC tests in 2026-27?
TEA's 2026-27 calendar has three rounds. December: November 30 - December 11, 2026, for all five courses. Spring: English I and English II April 5-16, Biology and U.S. History April 12-23, and Algebra I April 19-30, 2027. June: June 14-25, 2027, for all five courses. Districts choose the exact days inside each window.
When is the last STAAR English II test?
TEA says the final STAAR English II will be given in June 2027 (window June 14-25, 2027). Students enrolled in English II in 2026-27 still take it as first-time testers.
Is English II still a graduation requirement?
Not for students who graduate after August 31, 2027. Students who graduate before August 31, 2027, must still meet the English II EOC requirement, either by passing it, through an individual graduation committee if eligible, or with an approved substitute assessment.
When is the last STAAR EOC?
December 6-17, 2027, for Algebra I, English I, Biology and U.S. History. After that the Student Success Tool (SST) takes over: end-of-year tests in May 2028, with December and June testing opportunities continuing. TEA says English I in the December and June SST rounds will be a single, combined test.
When do STAAR EOC results come out?
December 2026 EOC results reach districts January 5, 2027, and the Family Portal January 20, 2027. Spring 2027 EOC results reach districts May 21 and the Family Portal June 8, 2027. June 2027 EOC results reach districts July 20 and the Family Portal July 30, 2027.
Can TSIA2 replace the Algebra I or English I EOC?
Yes. TEA's HB 8 FAQ says HB 8 does not change the use of TSIA2 as a substitute assessment for English I or Algebra I.
What if my child fails an EOC?
They can retest in a later December, spring or June round. A student who has failed no more than two EOC requirements may still qualify for a diploma through an individual graduation committee (IGC), and TEA says removing English II does not change that rule.
STAAR practice tests in TEA's 2026 format
Each practice test copies TEA's 2026 released test question by question: the same standards, question types and points, TEA's reference materials and calculator rules, and every answer explained. Pick a grade to see real questions from it.
