About the Ohio's State Test Grade 7 Math Test
Seventh grade is where Ohio math is hardest by the numbers: 49% of seventh graders were proficient in spring 2026, the only grade 3-8 math test below half. The year centers on proportional reasoning and adds statistics and probability, while operations with rational numbers (including negatives) underpin everything.
ODEW reports grade 7 math in five strands: Ratios & Proportions, The Number System, Geometry, Statistics & Probability, and Modeling & Reasoning. Proportional relationships and percent problems (tax, tip, discount, interest) are the core content.
Ohio's State Tests are fixed-form tests given online through Cambium's Ohio portal, with paper as an accommodation (ODEW). Grade 7 math has two sections of up to 90 minutes each. As at grade 6, Section 1 is non-calculator and Section 2 allows a calculator.
Proficient + Accomplished + Advanced (scale 700+). Basic (Level 2) and Limited (Level 1) are below Proficient. The only grade 3-8 math test under half in 2026. In spring 2025 the grade 7 figure was 50%.
