Most Math Kangaroo practice online is a PDF you print and mark yourself. This is a full paper you sit on the screen, timed, with the answer explained the moment you finish and every wrong option telling you which mistake it came from.

These are not past Math Kangaroo papers. They are our own, written by hand on the SOF olympiad blueprint, and the junior papers happen to be close to Kangaroo Ecolier in shape: 35 multiple-choice questions, an hour, and a final Achievers section worth double marks.
What carries across is the thinking. Both competitions reward noticing something rather than calculating faster, and both build their wrong answers out of specific mistakes. That is why every question here names the mistake behind each wrong option.

Math Kangaroo is the largest maths competition in the world, with more than six million participants a year across eighty-plus countries. It runs for grades 1 to 12 and is held on the third Thursday of March. Problems are multiple choice, often with playful setups, and the paper is deliberately built so that the first questions are genuinely doable and the last ones are seriously hard.
Kangaroo groups two school years into each level. Pre-Ecolier is grades 1 and 2, Ecolier is grades 3 and 4, Benjamin is grades 5 and 6, Cadet is grades 7 and 8, then Junior and Student cover high school. A child sits the level that matches their grade, so the same level name covers two different school years.
Sitting a full paper under time beats working through loose problems, because Kangaroo is as much about deciding which questions to attempt as it is about solving them. Practise the whole paper, then look at what each wrong answer meant: most Kangaroo distractors are the answer you get from one specific mistake, so knowing which mistake you made is worth more than knowing the right answer.
AMC 8 is harder on average and more classical, focused on geometry, number theory and combinatorics for grades 6 to 8. Math Kangaroo starts at grade 1, is shorter, and is designed to be welcoming, though its final questions at each level are genuinely difficult. Many students do Kangaroo first and move to AMC 8 later.
Scoring varies by level and year, and Math Kangaroo publishes national rankings rather than a fixed pass mark. A useful practice target is finishing the paper with time to check, since running out of time is what costs most children marks rather than being unable to solve the problems.
