About the LEAP 2025 Grade 7 Math Test

Seventh grade continues the middle-grades LEAP progression, with proportional reasoning as the through-line and operations with rational numbers (including negatives) underpinning everything. The scoring frame holds: "Mastery" is the on-grade-level target, "Basic" is below it, and statewide only about a third of Louisiana students in grades 3-8 reach Mastery in math.

The test measures the Louisiana Student Standards, organized into Major Content and Additional & Supporting Content with reasoning tasks. Proportional relationships and percent problems are the heaviest content, and probability is introduced.

Statewide in 2025, 33% of Louisiana students (grades 3-8) reached Mastery or above in math.

LEAP is given online. As at grade 6, NO calculator on Session 1, a four-function calculator on Sessions 2 and 3; a math reference sheet is provided.

33%% at Mastery or above — Math, statewide grades 3-8 (2025)

Mastery + Advanced = on grade level. 'Basic' is BELOW Mastery. LDOE reports by subject across grades 3-8.

What Louisiana Parents Should Know About Grade 7 Math

1

Make proportional reasoning second nature — proportions, unit rates, and percents are the heaviest grade-7 content.

2

Nail operations with negative numbers — errors here cascade into everything else.

3

Don't skip probability — a self-contained topic where focused practice picks up points.

4

Aim for Mastery; know 'Basic' is below grade level. Practice with and without a calculator (Session 1 vs. 2-3).
