Where does my child's i-Ready score fall?

Pick the subject, grade and season, then type the overall score from the report. You get the national percentile and the grade-level placement.

Type the overall score from the report (100 to 800). In grade 3 math, 464 or higher is Mid grade level or above, and the national median in the fall is 424.

From Curriculum Associates' 2026-27 national norms and placement tables, for the overall score. The percentile depends on when the test was taken: fall is to November 15, winter November 16 to March 1, spring from March 2.

The overall score where each placement starts, for a child in that grade. A score below the “Early” number is below grade level; at the “Mid” number or higher, the child has met grade-level expectations.

What the i-Ready placements mean

Mid, Late or Above Grade Level

Your child has met or gone beyond what is expected for their grade. Curriculum Associates says these students will likely benefit from grade-level work and topics from the next grade, and are unlikely to need intervention.

Early On Grade Level

Your child has partly met the expectations for their grade. Continued on-grade work should get them there; Curriculum Associates says they likely do not need intervention.

One Grade Level Below

Your child is approaching grade-level expectations. Grade-level teaching plus targeted help with specific gaps is recommended.

Two or More Grade Levels Below

Your child is not yet close to grade-level expectations. Work on earlier-grade skills to fill gaps is recommended.

Paraphrased from the definitions in Curriculum Associates' placement tables. The placements were set by more than 100 teachers against grade-level standards.

Questions parents ask

What is a good i-Ready score?
A score that places your child at Mid grade level or above means they have met the expectations for their grade. In grade 3 that is 464 or higher in math and 545 or higher in reading; in grade 5, 498 and 609; in grade 8, 541 and 642. Percentiles say how a score compares with other children nationally at the same time of year.
What is the average i-Ready score for 3rd grade?
The national median (50th percentile) for grade 3 under the 2026-27 norms is 424 in math and 496 in reading in the fall, 439 and 518 in the winter, and 450 and 529 in the spring.
What does "Mid 3" or "Early 4" mean on an i-Ready report?
Those are grade-level placements. The number is the grade, and Early, Mid or Late is how far through that grade's expectations your child is. Early means partly met; Mid and Late mean met. A placement of a lower grade, such as "Grade 2" for a third grader, means one grade level below.
What is the highest i-Ready score?
i-Ready scores run from 100 to 800 on one scale for kindergarten to grade 12, so a score can be compared from year to year. What matters for your child is the placement and percentile for their grade.
Is i-Ready Inform the same as the i-Ready Diagnostic?
Yes. From the 2026-27 school year Curriculum Associates calls the i-Ready Diagnostic "i-Ready Inform". The scale and the placement scores did not change.
Why is my child's percentile different in the spring?
Percentiles compare your child with a national group tested at the same time of year: fall (to November 15), winter (November 16 to March 1) or spring (from March 2). Children grow during the year, so the same score is a lower percentile in the spring than in the fall.
Are these the new i-Ready norms?
Yes. The norms on this page are Curriculum Associates' current national norms, built from 2022-23 data, in use since 2024-25 and published for 2026-27. Older charts online often still use the earlier norms from 2018-19 data.
Can my child be on grade level but below the 50th percentile?
Yes. Placements compare a score with what the grade's standards expect, and percentiles compare it with other children. In spring of grade 3 math, for example, the national median (450) places in Early 3, and Mid 3 starts at 464.
