i-Ready Math Practice Test

An adaptive math test in the style of the i-Ready Diagnostic: the same four areas, in the same order, with the same number of questions. Every answer decides the next question, and every missed question is explained at the end.

Unofficial practice. i-Ready® is a registered trademark of Curriculum Associates, LLC, which is not affiliated with iMasterly and has not reviewed or endorsed this test.

66 math questions in i-Ready's four areas and order. Each answer decides how hard the next question is, so it is fine to find some questions hard. Take your time: there is no timer.

Which grade are you in?

What the i-Ready math test is made of

For grades K-8, every child takes the four math areas in this order, with this many questions in each (Curriculum Associates' published test flow).

Algebra and Algebraic Thinking · 18 questions

Patterns, what multiplying and dividing mean, and writing and solving equations, including word problems.

Number and Operations · 20 questions

Arithmetic: place value, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Geometry · 14 questions

Shapes and their properties: sides, angles, symmetry, and in later grades the coordinate plane.

Measurement and Data · 14 questions

Time, length, area, volume and money, and reading tables and graphs.

The questions are mostly multiple choice, with typed answers, drop-down menus, drag and drop, and number lines. Some come with tools on screen, such as a calculator, ruler or protractor.

How i-Ready scores work

The school's report shows four things for each subject.

Overall scale scoreOne number for the subjectThe same scale from kindergarten to grade 12, so growth can be followed year to year.
PlacementA grade level, such as "Early 5", "Mid 5" or "Late 5"Given overall and for each of the four math areas.
Percentile rank1 to 99How the score compares with a national group of students tested at the same time of year.
Growth goalsTypical Growth and Stretch GrowthHow much a student usually grows in a year, and an ambitious target for catching up.

Our practice test does not give these scores: they come from Curriculum Associates' own scale. It tells you the grade level your child is working at in each of the four areas, which is the part of the report that says what to work on.

Questions parents ask

What is the i-Ready Diagnostic?
An adaptive reading and math test from Curriculum Associates, used from kindergarten to grade 12. Each answer decides how hard the next question is, so it finds the level a child is working at, area by area. From the 2026-27 school year it is called i-Ready Inform.
How many questions are on the i-Ready math test?
For grades K-8, Curriculum Associates lists 66: Algebra and Algebraic Thinking 18, Number and Operations 20, Geometry 14, then Measurement and Data 14, in that order. Our practice test uses the same areas, order and counts.
Is i-Ready timed?
No. Children can take as long as they need, and time does not affect the score. Curriculum Associates says an average student in grades 2-5 takes 40 to 60 minutes per subject, usually split into two sessions.
How often do schools give it?
Curriculum Associates recommends three times a year, 12 to 18 weeks apart: early in the school year, mid-year and spring.
Why did my child get questions that seemed too hard?
That is how an adaptive test works. A right answer brings a harder question and a wrong one an easier one, so every child meets questions they cannot answer. A child's first test also starts one grade below their grade.
Does this practice test give an i-Ready score?
No. i-Ready's scale scores and placements come from Curriculum Associates' own scale, which we do not have and do not imitate. Our report says which grade level your child is working at in each area, and shows every missed question with its answer explained.
Can a child prepare for i-Ready?
Practice on the same kinds of questions helps a child feel at home with the format and the idea that some questions will be hard. The most useful part is the review: the skills a child missed are the ones to work on.

i-Ready is published by Curriculum Associates. We are not affiliated with them, and these practice questions are our own.
